What's The MAIN Information I Need About Potency?
PCBE % is the value that you want to pay the most attention to in the lab results. This is "Psilocybin Equivalent" that takes into account Psilocin and Psilocybin, the two major alkaloids in psilocybe mushrooms . We feel this number is the most accurate reflection of what effects can be expected as it takes into account dephosphorylation and phosphorylation of the two substances.
What Is Average Potency And How Much Is A Dose?
Average PCBE % by weight for psilocybe cubensis is around 0.3-0.5%. This is where your average little brown mushroom is going to fall. Golden Teachers, B+, etc. Some cubensis varieties that have been selectively bred have tested as high as 2.5%-3.0%. It is important to know the potency of the strain you are consuming because, as you can see, potency can vary wildly. When you know the potency of your shrooms, you can dose accordingly.
A full psychedelic experience is normally achieved by the average sized adult with a dose of 25mg-30mg of Psilocybin. To calculate dosage, simply move the decimal point one place to the right to arrive at mg/g. For instance, a strain that has a PCBE of 1.0% would contain 10mg/g and would require approx. 2.5g to achieve a full psychedelic experience. A strain with a PCBE of 2.5% would only require 1.0g to achieve the same full psychedelic experience. ALL SHROOMS ARE NOT EQUAL!
Why Do We Lab Test?
At District Mycological Research Group, we perform private research on entheogenic fungi , specifically Psilocybe Cubensis mushrooms. Our main focus of research/data collection at the moment is on complete alkaloid testing. We believe that the minor alkaloids found in psilocybe fungi play an important role in the overall benefits of the fungi and that strains can possibly be bred to produce specific, intended effects by evaluating the "full spectrum" entourage effects of these minor alkaloids. We rigorously test our strains for these alkaloids as well as perform DNA sequencing on certain strains in hopes to learn all we can about their composition. We make all of this data available to the public as we feel transparency is the first step in harm reduction.
