 At District Mycological Research Group, we’re passionate about the therapeutic potential of magic mushrooms. So much so that we’ve been using them for decades. As the first and only magic mushroom vendor in Washington DC that rigorously lab tests all our products, we’re dedicated to reducing harm in our community.  

Magic mushrooms here in DC have historically come straight from the black market. Our unique gift economy has brought a ton of opportunistic “dealers” to the area, who are focused on making a quick buck. That involves importing shrooms from out of state. When you buy mushrooms from the illicit market, you never really know what you’re getting. This uncertainty can lead to several potential problems:

1. Counterfeit Strains: Some unscrupulous sellers may claim their products are one strain when, in reality, they are something entirely different. The truth is that they just don’t know, since your medicine is exchanging several different hands before you get your hands on it. 
2. Fake Products: Aside from not knowing what your strains are, you may end up falling for mushroom chocolates or gummies made from mushrooms that don’t even contain psilocybin. With such a huge lack of regulation in this industry, you might have a bad experience with something. 
3. Illegal Sourcing and Dangerous Ingredients: Magic mushrooms and shroom products that are sourced illegally can have unknown contaminants or be harvested under poor conditions, compromising their quality and safety. The truth is, without a proper test you have no idea what you’re getting.
